Frequently Asked Questions
Can I join for part of a year only? You must take the full year of Spanish. You may sign up for semester 1, semester 2, or both of Science and Art (topics will not repeat).

When do I sign up for volunteer time? Once registations are received, you will be asked for your preferences. Each parent present will be asked to act as classroom assistants. We are required by our meeting place and insurance policies to have 2 adults in every classroom. The instructor may need your assistance from time to time or you may just be observing.

How do I register? On the REGISTRATION PAGE of this web site, you may download and print all the forms you need to send along with a $75 non-refundable Registration Fee per family ($50 if postmarked by April 15, 2007).

How and when will I know whether we are in the classes we chose? You will receive an e-mail confirming the receipt of your registration. You will be told at that time if any classes are full.

What do the kids do when they're not in class? They may do quiet activities in the social area. We provide some games such as checkers, chess, and Legos.

Is there a nursery or preschool room? Yes, both are available. Contact Michelle Gillette-Lacko (ahlacko@aol.com) for specific questions about preschool. A parent must be present in the nursery with their children.

Can I change my mind and get a refund? Refunds of the $75 registration fee are only issued if your requested classes are unavailable and you choose not to attend the co-op. Class tuition is non-refundable unless the co-op or instructor cancels the class.

Is there homework? Science and Spanish for ages 8+ will require weekly homework.

Can families of all faiths/beliefs/theories join? Yes. We welcome any home educator interested in high quality, professionally taught classes.

Will there be business meetings and voting? Yes, though no attendance is required.

Is Home Educators for Excellence affiliated with the church at which you meet? No. The church has been very gracious in allowing us to use their space.

Are there any topics that will not be discussed at meetings? We aim to be a supportive and non-judgmental group. Therefore, religion, politics, and lifestyle choices will not be discussed.

When is the class day over? Classes will end at 4:30pm.

Will there be field trips? Yes. Field trips may be planned by members or the field trip coordinator(s). Any field trip costs are additional (not included in co-op registration fee or class tuition). You are not required to attend field trips. Payment for field trips is required when you sign-up.

How do I know which group my child belongs in? Our goal is to provide classes that are a step above what is commonly found in co-ops and support groups. As a result, our tutors have been instructed to present challenging, engaging classes. We offer 4 age groups: 3-5 yrs, 5-7 yrs, 8-10 yrs, and 11-15 yrs.
